Last night Ryan and I had our 2nd live chat. This one was about family relationships and the adoption experience. The majority of the chat was spent discussing the open adoption process, the amount of information that families share with each other and how to discuss the adoption with the child once they are older. We have three more chats to complete one about the legal process, the adoption process from an embryo donor’s perspective and the adoption process from an adoptive parent’s perspective. I'm looking forward to the chats that will be from the donor’s perspective and the adoptive parent’s perspective.
In other news we've signed up for the Donor Embryo Program at the Center for Reproductive Medicine in Minneapolis. Our names have been added to the wait list, we are number 49. We've been told that our anticipated wait on the list will be 3 years, yep 3 years. When donor embryos from at least two different couples become available they will send information about the donors and embryos to the next couple on the wait list. The potential recipient then has 10 days to make a decision about taking ownership of one set of embryos. Then once two more are available information is passed onto the next person on the wait list. Hopefully, the wait wouldn't be 3 years.
Well that's all for now! We hope everyone has a great weekend; we'll be busy working on redoing our fireplace!
So is the Donor Embryo Program at the Center for Reproductive Medicine in Minneapolis different from the Bethany Christian Service? Or are they the same thing?
ReplyDeleteThe Donor Embryo Program at CRM is different from the Embryo Adoption Program at BCS. The donor embryo program is a local program that is managed by Reprotech, an embryo storage facility in Minneapolis; they store frozen embryos for three fertility clinics in the area. Once a family has no use for their frozen embryos they donate them to couples that are on the wait list. The donor program costs less and you don’t need to have a home study done but the wait time is long, one of the other clinics has a current wait time of 5 years! We decided that since the wait time is so long it wouldn’t hurt to put our names on the list right away. Especially since there are no costs involved until you take ownership of the embryos.
