We decided the easiest way for us to make a decision about whether we were going to go with an anonymous donation or an open donation was to start by making a list of the “pros” and “cons” of each. While doing this we tried to think of everything as we wanted to be sure we were completely confident in the decision we were about to make. So, without further ado we made the decision to move forward with an anonymous donation.
We sent Clydene an email on Monday to let her know that we had made the decision to move forward with an anonymous adoption. We also informed her that we would be open to adopting embryos were an egg or sperm donor was used. By Monday afternoon Clydene had sent us 45 anonymous donation profiles for us to review. She asked that we review the profiles and send her our choices by Wednesday at 8am. We needed to be sure there were a total of 5 embryos available; it didn’t matter if we chose more than one profile as long as there were at least 5 available.
Monday night we did our “homework” and reviewed all 45 profiles. We each reviewed the profiles on our own and wrote down which profiles we were interested in. Then we compared our list and looked more closely at the profiles that we both chose. In doing this we found out that we had actually picked the same top four donors without the other knowing. From there we narrowed our list down to two profiles and sent Clydene an email with the two donor numbers that we were interested in.
Today we received the family medical history from Clydene on the two donors we were interested in. Since we were both at work today we reviewed the profiles and then emailed each other with which profile we wanted to move forward with and we both picked the same profile. Therefore, we emailed Clydene right away to let her know which donor we wanted to move forward with and just like that the decision was done and the embryos were on hold for us! We are extremely excited and looking forward to finding out when the transfer will take place.
