We hope everyone is having a great summer and all are doing well. Our summer has been busy and it’s hard to believe it’s the middle of August already!
Just as we did last winter we wanted to send a brief email to update everyone on where things are at with embryo transfers. We know we have been pretty quiet about everything but that’s because there’s been so much going on. Below is a timeline of what’s happened since our miscarriage last winter.
Mid-January
– traveled to Knoxville for another transfer
End of
January
– found out the transfer was not successful
Early
February
– we were contacted by a company in Minneapolis, ReproTech, who we
had reached out to before we adopted embryos from NEDC in Knoxville. When we contacted them we were put on a wait
list and told we were number 49 on the list, which meant we should expect to
wait 3+ years before we hear anything from them. Therefore, we were pretty shocked and excited
when less than a year later we were told it was our turn, especially since we
had started talking about taking a break from everything. But we thought this might be a sign for us
and we decided to pursue adopting additional embryos through ReproTech.
Mid-February
– package of 5 available embryos was sent to us as well as another
couple – we had 10 days to choose which embryos we wanted and it was somewhat a
race against the clock because we wanted to be sure we got our choices in
before the other couple so we got our first pick
End of
February
– found out we got our first choice for embryos!!
March
– there were many things that needed to be signed and notarized
before we could take possession of the embryos and we only had 1 month to do so. We also have to get set up with a new
fertility doctor in Minneapolis our doctor had to agree that she would perform
the transfer with the adopted embryos, which she did!
End of
March
– paid the fee and took possession of the 5 embryos we adopted
April
– the doctor appointments started up again
May
– doctor appointments continued and we had to start taking more
meds, which included our favorite one Ryan administering a shot in Sara’s hip
each day (we hope you can sense the sarcasm) all in preparation for the
transfer
End of
May
– transfer was performed
Beginning
of June
– two blood tests confirmed SARA IS PREGNANT!!
Over the next couple of months the doctors continued to monitor
Sara and adjusted her meds as necessary.
Towards the end of June we had our confirmation of pregnant ultrasound
where we got to see little baby Bennett for the first time – to say we were
overjoyed seeing our baby on the ultrasound screen would be an
understatement. We were elated, couldn’t
believe what we were seeing and kept starring at the little flickering heart
beat. Our hearts melted and we were in
love.
The pregnancy has continued to go well and Sara has felt great. We have had a couple more doctor appointments and we got to hear the healthy heartbeat a few times, the last time being yesterday. Sara is through the first trimester and in her 14th week of pregnancy. We hope the next 26 weeks of pregnancy go as well as the first 14 and can’t wait to meet our little bundle of joy in late January or early February.
As always thanks for all your love and support throughout this journey. The journey has been a long one, with many ups and downs, but we wouldn’t be where we are today if we hadn’t gone through everything we have over the last five years.
All our love,
Ryan, Sara and baby Bennett
Congrats. Great news after a long journey.
