12 months = 1 year old

Weight: Miss Madelyn was 21 pounds at her one year appointment.  That means she gained a little over 14 pounds in her first year of life.  It also means she went from the 22nd percentile for weight to the 50th!  

Length: As of her one year appointment she was 30.5 inches. At birth she was 19 inches which was the 34th percentile for height so she’s grown almost a whole foot (11.5) in her first year.  She’s now sitting at the 90th percentile for height so she’s still long and lean :)

Diaper Size: During the day she wears size 3 but we have been putting her size 4 at night just to be sure we don’t have any leaks.  After it happened a couple of times we said that’s enough and bumped her up a size and we haven’t had any issues since!

Clothes Size: She is wearing 12-18 month clothes these days.  I must say it’s a little irritating to go from sizes in 3 month increments (0-3 months, 3-6 months, etc.) to 6 month increments.  This means her pants fit her great length wise but not so much around the waist. 

Eye Color: Those baby blues have not changed and we love it!  We have gotten more comments about her eyes than I ever thought possible.  We’ve been told they are stunning, gorgeous, beautiful, breath taking and crystal like!  And, we couldn’t agree with these comments more we absolutely love the color!

Hair Color: I think it’s safe to say her hair is a dark blonde light brown color :)  It also had a curl to it, hence the funky styling she sports most mornings.  We’re exciting to see what it’s going to do as it continues to grow. 

Sleep: We have had a couple rough nights here and there which have been due to her being sick but for the most part she’s been sleeping well.  She’s also transition to a new room at school which resulted in her taking one nap a day instead of two.  She’s also move up to sleeping on a cot with her blanket.  We were a little nervous as to how she was going to do during naps but she seems to have adjusted to the new time and cot just fine.  She’s even taken a couple naps that are close to three hours! 

Food: This girl loves her fruits and veggies!  Actually she loves food in general and we’ve only found a couple things she wasn’t fond of and let us know by signing “all done” over and over which was cuter than you could imagine.  What did this you might ask, pulled pork!  I guess she takes after her mama in her dislike of pork :)

The transition to whole milk was going really good until she got sick.  Since she lost a lot of the good enzymes and bacteria in her body she was lactose intolerant for a little while.  During this time we went back to more formula than milk and when we did give her milk it was soy.  She’s been drinking more whole milk at school so I think we’re in the clear and will be switching back to whole milk after our current container of silk soy milk is gone.  We’re really looking forward to the day when she’s done with formula and bottles!  

Activity: We got her a lion walker toy for Christmas and Sara’s parents got her a puppy dog that she can ride on or push.  She was a little hesitant at first but has since started to enjoy walking with either one on her own.  As you can tell from the video posted in January she’s not the best at steering and links to run into things but we’re certain this will come with time – or at least we hope so!  She continues to explore the house and new rooms at school.  Enjoys stacking things, rolling balls around and chasing after them, pushing anything that makes noise, pulling herself up on anything and everything and she absolutely LOVES when you read books to her.  She sits on the floor in front of you and gets so excited when you start reading, it’s the best! 

She has also started to “throw” the cutest little tantrums.  She will very gentle go down on her stomach, roll over and then make a little scene.  Aside from the one time she did it when Ryan dropped her off at school she’s only done it at home.  Even though she might not comprehend what we’re saying to her when she does this – that it is not going to get her anywhere and she needs to use her words and signs – we think it’s good to let her know from the start this is not anyway to get what she wants or needs. 

Finally the days of two teeth are long gone.  Our girl is cutting 5 teeth!  Her top two middle teeth, one tooth on each side of these and a bottom tooth are all coming in.  Aside from the excessive amount of drool and constantly chewing on stuff she doesn’t seem to be too bothered by them, thank goodness!

Well here we are our baby girl that we waited so long for is now a toddler.  However, I’m fairly certain she will always be our baby.  She continues to amaze us every day.  She’s talking more, will be walking on her own very soon, loves to laugh, is always very attentive, she watches everything and tries to figure out how it works or why it does what it does or makes the sound it does.  We can’t say it enough, we are completely blessed!
